Ferdows was born in Afghanistan and grew up in the Netherlands after his family fled during the war in the 1990s. His documentary work, very much inspired by his roots, centres on humans and their condition. While researching different cameras and their history, he came across the Afghan Box Camera and decided to build one himself. “I see great importance in preserving this heritage and the craftsmanship that comes with it.” Ferdows uses his Box Camera to document the Afghan diaspora in the Netherlands.
